Spruce Grove Rotary Women’s School
Dhaka, Bangladesh
Dear members of Rotary Club of Spruce Grove ,

How is your day in Canada? We are doing well here. We always hope
you live in well. Because of you, we have got opportunity for learning
and educating for our children. We can’t express our happiness to get
such opportunity.

We have started the New-year with some new hopes and determinations. Our school is running very well now and we attend in school timely.  Here our study is going very well in our Amarok School. You all must be happy to hear that we rarely miss our school even we do not late to attend and most of us received special award with appreciation from teacher for our timely manners. Now a day a positive competition is working in mind between all mothers. Our teacher teachers us lessons on English, Bengali and math and also discusses many other relevant issues to our life like mothers’ health, child development, food & nutrition, health & hygiene, bad effect of dowry and household conflict. Now we understand our mistakes already done in our life before but now we want to correct them for our children and for the neighbors who have a chance to avoid mistake. Our teacher loves us a lot as we do. Now we are going to share with you about ‘ Panna ’. She has been coming here for about 3 years and she is doing very well. She is a housewife and her husband is a mobile vegetable seller. Their elder daughter’s age is 14 studies in 8 th grade. Panna’s in-law came with a marriage proposal for her daughter. But Panna was the only person who strongly opposed the proposal. She knows the bad effect of early marriage and she learns all these things from Amarok School. She knows the importance of women education and she wants for her daughter to be educated in higher education. And her daughter also doesn’t want to be an ordinary woman; she wants to do something in her life. Then Panna convinced her husband by explaining the bad effects of early marriage. When her husband understands the whole thing then he convinced his parents. It was not easy for Panna but she made it successfully and strongly. Now her in-laws also agree that their son’s wife has lot of knowledge and skills. Did we share with about social development consultant worked with us in last year and conducted session on ‘Economic Empowerment’? From that session some mothers from our Amarok School inspired. Many mothers started to save some money as capital and some started small business for earning. One of our friends in school got a big order from a garment factory but it was not possible for her to do all works by herself. She talked with others and made a group with them who are good at stitching and they made a contract. After getting the delivery in time the garment factory has started to give us more stitching work and we do all the work sitting at our home in our free time. Sometime we work together. Though the money we are earning now it’s very little but we are happy because we’ve started to earn. The money we get from the garment, we are depositing together. We want to buy few sewing machines with this money because machine will help us to do work quickly. The spring has started in Bangladesh with its beauty. We call it “The Queen of Season”. Spring season is a pleasing season for everyone. It comes after winter season and people feel relief from the cold. This year the intensity of the cold in our country was much higher than the other years. In the spring season temperature become moderate and everywhere looks green and colorful because of the blooming trees and flowers. After a long wait, finally time comes when we start wearing lighter clothes. Thanks to all of you and Amarok Society for giving us opportunity to learn. With love, Parvin, Shimu, Khushi, Ranu, Narjina, Kohinur
