After seeing children eat food from a trash can in a park, two Spruce Grove Rotarians vowed “not in my community” and made it their goal to improve the food security of children and their families. That day in the park was the beginning of what is now “Our Community Pantry” (the Pantry) which is a program of the Rotary Club of Spruce Grove Community Partner's Society.Our Community Pantry” is 100% operated by Rotarian and Friends of Rotary volunteers. This amazing group of individuals are the success of Our Community Pantry! What we accomplish each week would not be possible without them!

School Lunch Program
Too many children in our community attend school hungry, often arriving without having breakfast and without a lunch. When children are hungry they struggle to learn, and their overall health is compromised.
Providing lunches to children at school supports our belief that education and good health are essential for children to reach their full potential. In partnership with Parkland School Division (PSD), our 100% volunteer powered team, prepared and delivered 900 lunches weekly in the 2025/2026 school year.
Our Community Pantry is incredibly grateful for every donation of time, treasure, and talent that has brought us to where we are today. This generosity along with the proceeds from a $400,000 local food infrastructure grant from Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada enabled us to build our own state-of-the-art professional kitchen that we moved into in April 2026. With this amazing kitchen that is exclusively ours, we plan to increase weekly meal production from 900 to 5000 and transition from “brown bag” lunches to warm entrées and vegetables, salads, and scratch made nutritious snacks all the while keeping the favorite Pantry cookie on the menu.
Beyond the increased meal volumes and types, the Pantry will also work with Parkland School Division to understand how the kitchen could benefit children in other ways. Considerations include hosting parent and child lunch making sessions, “where does your food come from” classes, or possibly a credit program for high school students. The potential is endless!
Summer Park Program
During the summer months when kids aren't in school, we provide healthy snack packs to children involved in the City of Spruce Grove summer park programs.
The Rotary Club of Spruce Grove is a busy club with lots of opportunity for others, as new members or as “Friends of Rotary”. We are also a friendship club where community builders gather to support our community. We pride ourselves in living up to our motto: “Service Above Self”.
