I spoke today (Monday, February 10th) with my Canadian Blood Services (CBS) contact Keri, and asked about the possible move from the TransAlta Tri Leisure Centre (TLC) for our Blood Donor Clinics.  Keri confirmed that, in fact, our clinics will be moving.  The reasons are several:

1. The load in and out of the TLC is considerable since the CBS group must unload at the back of the building and then push a great deal of equipment the length of the TLC to the gym, reversing all that as they leave ... a considerable distance.
2. As we suspected, cost is an issue. The cost has not risen this year but is a lot apparently, compared to other locations.  Keri says that CBS is publically funded and must be fiscally responsible in its use of taxpayers’ dollars.
3. The floor covering in the gym is a real issue for CBS and a liability situation.  The tarps on the floor are very uneven, as we all know, and people have come close to falling.

Keri said that the TLC will become a back-up site for the new location.

So, where are we going? The answer is .... the Holy Family Catholic Church on Boundary Raod between Stony Plain and Spruce Grove.  Keri said that the church is anxious to host the clinics and there is a cost saving there. (And has lots of room for our big clinics.)
