1. Club Meeting, March 2. Speaker. RCMP, Inspector Hill, Spruce Grove and Stony Plain Detachment. Inspector Hill was scheduled to be our speaker a couple of weeks ago but had to cancel. We are pleased he is able to be with us this week. He will comment on his history with the RCMP, talk about his short time in our area and certainly about the new Detachment Facility being constructed south of our Centennial Park. Should be interesting.
2. Interesting...looking for a place to volunteer or just go and check out what is happening...our new...member, James Wickstom, has been spending some time at the YCR2 new facility at the Goodwill Impact Centre. You Can Ride Two
The month of February is a busy time at You Can Ride Two in West Edmonton. Teams of bike mechanics and others have been volunteering weekly to prepare for the rush in March. Special needs children in Edmonton and surrounding communities have had to make do without a bike for too long. You Can Ride Two is a locally directed non profit that pairs special needs children with custom fit pedal machines. At no cost to the Family. With over 150 specially fitted bicycles and tricycles, Janine Halayko has seen this program grow by leaps and bounds over the past four years. This year the team has been granted space within the Goodwill’s new Kindness Centre located in West Edmonton. Rotary Spruce Grove has helped put dollars and awareness into motion through fundraising drives and bridging gaps to local resources. The past two weekends I have volunteered eight hours with the Team. Together we have sorted, prepared, and customized each machine to suit the needs of one precious child. I snapped a picture with the first Tricycle I fixed, number 4A, and then it was back to work! There will be over 150 children matched to a ride on the sixth of March. There are dozens of volunteers needed that day. Please use the link to sign up, help a child meet the summer time independence they have been missing.
3. A number of our club's members attended the 56th Annual Alberta Rotary Curling Bonspiel last weekend in Calgary. Thanks team for participating. All reports are in and the official word is...all had FUN. I was informed that...what happens at Bonspiels...stays at Bonspiels!! Well except for one photo. Next years event will be in Edmonton.
