No Appreciation Gala on May 30
On Saturday, February 8, club members gathered at the clubhouse to discuss Ribfest.  The assembled group asked that the board consider the matter of whether to proceed with holding our appreciation gala event on May 30 rather than bringing the matter back to the club for further discussion at this week's club meeting.  At last week's board meeting, the board decided to not hold the appreciation gala on May 30.  Though the board did not prescribe in its motion how the club should proceed to now meet the objectives that event was conceived to meet (primarily fundraising, donor recognition, and community enagement), there has been much talk amongst club members about how Ribfest might help us do these things instead.  At this week's meeting, we'll develop these ideas further.
News from Parkland After Dark
The Rotary Club of Parkland After Dark has two upcoming events that may be of interest to you.  On April 4, 2020, they will hold their annual Playoff Hockey Draft and Calcutta.  If you are interested in entering a team in the draft, contact Lonnie Chadwick at lonnie@powerworks.ca and see this poster for more information.

On April 24, 2020, Parkland After Dark will celebrate the tenth anniversary of their club charter.  Details are yet to come, but save the date if you're interested in attending.
Summer Meetings
During July and August, our club will be unable to meet at Shotz Lounge.  This year's board and next year's are working together to plan a series of special events for these meetings.  If you have any ideas about where we might go and what we might do, please email Brad (brad.mastaler@sprucegroverotary.org).

Amarok: Teach a Mother, Change the World
From John Oldham:

Recently we donated a small number of backpacks to the Amarok Society.
In January Gem Munro was in Bangladesh for a month. He took some with him.

Here's a photo of Gem handing out the bags to the women in our school.

Tanyss also made these comments to me in a letter.

“They were delighted, of course
It’s too bad it's such a  poor photo.  Alarmingly bad actually.  We have only 2 good cameras.  Anyway, looks like a photo from 1962, which is sort of interesting :)”

To celebrate the holiday of love at the Blood Donor Clinic, Judy Kesanko decided to decorate with some balloons and table center pieces!  What a nice touch, which I'm sure everyone there enjoyed.  Thanks Judy!

Rotary Ribfest - Save the Date!
Based on the club expressing a strong interest to host a "Rotary Ribfest" from July 24-26, 2020, tentative plans are starting to take shape.  We are in the process of gathering information about the proposed partner organization that does the ribs from other community partners where they have run events in the past and are beginning to work on a contract that would be acceptable to all parties.  We'll be working more on the event plans soon, but for now, please save the date in your calendar.
Notice of Board Meetings
Members of the club are encouraged to attend and observe our monthly board meetings.  For the 2019-2020 year, they will be held on the fourth Wednesday of every month at the clubhouse in Rotary Centennial Park beginning at 7:00 PM and ending at 8:30 PM.  If you can't attend in person, we are also now able to bring you in remotely using Zoom's online meeting software.  The URL for the meetings will be the same from month to month, so you may want to bookmark this address:  https://zoom.us/j/224919848.  Hope to see you there!
Attendance at Weekly Meetings
Just a quick reminder that if you are going to be away and won't be attending a weekly meeting, can you please indicate by clicking the "Can't Make It" Button.  The email comes out on Fridays and is called the "May Rotary Meetings" or whichever month it is.  The email comes from Crystal Desilets.  I use this info for informing Shotz how many people will be there for lunch.  Also if you are bringing a guest could you fill in the "Bring a Guest" button.  Thanks for helping out with this as it's makes my job easier if I have all the information.
Have Information for The Rotary RAP?

Thanks everyone!!!!
