Good morning,
Welcome to the week before Christmas and then the onset of a New Year around the corner.
I am grateful for many things and one of those...is the Fellowship and Service that we are surrounded by in Rotary. To participate with a group of folks in our own community that creates fellowship while supporting those in need in our community and communities around the world is a blessing.
1. Thanks to those in the December Club Service group that organized the Christmas Party. I was unable to attend but thanks to this group who were focused on planning a family event.
2. As we look forward to the New Year we will be initiating a group called, Friends of Rotary. This is a group of local citizens that would like to be aware of activities and service of the Rotary Club of Spruce Grove. This group will need the recommendation of a club member. These recommendations need to be made to our board. The board needs to approve. They can be made in person or through the Public Relations Committee. (Judy K or John O) A Friends of Rotary email will be sent to this group during the first week of each month. The first email will be the first week of February.
3. Starting in February a new structure of organizing speakers will take place. A committee primarily comprised of Club Service, Membership and Public Relations along with any other interested members will take the responsibility for planning speakers.
a. At this point...if you are interested in being on this committee please let Catherine Pederson or John Oldham know.
b. If you have ideas for speakers please let us know. We are in the process of developing a large list of possible speakers. In addition to regular speakers we would like to have a major speaker once every 3 months. A while ago Cheryl Bernard, Olympic Curler, was a speaker and we had a great turnout. (180 I think)
4. Our next Club meeting will be Thursday, Jan. 5th. We are pleased to have a member, Tony Zeglen as speaker. Tony will present...Reunion11 - one way to record your family tree with data, documents and photos.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.
Thankful and thoughtful.
John
