Attendance at Weekly Meetings
Just a quick reminder that if you are going to be away and won't be attending a weekly meeting, can you please indicate by clicking the "Can't Make It" Button.  The email comes out on Fridays and is called the "February Rotary Meetings" or whichever month it is.  The email comes from Crystal Desilets.  I use this info for informing Shotz how many people will be there for lunch.
Heather Glasier - MacEwan Rotaract

Heather came to the club last week and told us about the MacEwan University Rotaract Club and their upcoming event called "Broadway Gala".  It is to raise money for Polio Plus.  If you are interested in going to this event you can check out their Facebook page for more information.
Blood Donor Clinic Update
From Judy:

I have had a conversation with my Canadian Blood Services (CBS) liaison lady after the clinic on February 1. Those of you who gave your
volunteer time that evening know that, except for handing out snacks, we had very little to do. The lady in charge that evening basically
took away those first two stations that we have covered for 25 years. I was really concerned. I had asked for your time and you were not
needed.... but we were not informed of these changes ahead of time.

In chatting with my liaison, I have learned that this is coming from their head office, that we are not required to do those first two
stations in the future. All they expect of us now is manning (person-ing) the snack table.

After our strategic planning evening where we expressed the value of the Club members being in the public view, this is not good.
So at this point, unless you direct me otherwise, I will only ask one or two people to come for each shift to do the snacks. I know
that we offer “the best” snacks as I am told that by donors and CBS staff all the time.

But... A disappointing change, for sure.

Upcoming Things to Consider

February 28th - Club Assembly

March 7th - Meena Deccan: How to Reduce Honour Based Violence - The Paristi Project.  Meena Deccan is a lawyer and social activist (and a Saskatchewan Riders Fan....we will have to overlook that minor flaw).  She incorporated the Paristi Project while in graduate school to obtain her Masters in Law degree.  Meena's objective is to provide information to reduce honour based violence through public education.  Invite those friends and colleagues who work in public education, social work, healthcare who may be able to learn about the signs and save a life.

March 14th Natasha Rychlik: My Path Program - an alternative choice for students in the region.  atasha Rychilk is the founder and Executive Director of the My Path Learning Society.  This program is currently in its first year and is a home-schooling based blended alternative program.  Students attend half days at the Stony Creek School with Parkland School Division to learn core subjects and then spend their afternoons learning through various activities like dance, theatre, martial arts, community service etc.

March 21stBrett Esslinger: Engage Bus.  Seeing a need for transporation to and from our local food back, Brett Esslinger and his team of amazing community-minded citizens bought a bus and got to work.  He will share with us his journey in getting this project off the ground.  The inspirational story of the power of a small group of citizens with a common goal.
