Sep 5 Recap and Sep 12 Reminder
Last week at Rotary, Angela Fetch Muzyka from the Coordinated Suicide Prevention Program, talked about their "Creating Hope" campaign to reduce the stigma around suicide and mental health.  She talked about some shocking stats about suicide and the work she is doing in the region.  This week is Suicide Awareness Week, and there are a variety of things going on.  Check out https://www.facebook.com/CSPPTriRegion for more details.

This week at Rotary, Treasurer Mark Radke will be presenting the Club Administration budget for review, and, if possible, adoption by the club.  This is the budget that covers the club's internal operations, not the budget that includes our general fundraising and service projects.  The board decided to separate these two budgets for consideration because they are distinct.  If the club sees fit to pass the club administration budget, we will send out dues invoices shortly thereafter.  Consideration of the service projects budget will occur in early October.

Pints for Polio - Update
The Rotary Foundation's most important goal remains the eradication of polio, a disease on the verge of disappearing, but one that still threatens to reinfect the world through the ubiquity of international travel and misinformation about the safety and effectiveness of vaccinations.  While polio is only endemic now in Afghanistan and Pakistan and that seems like a world away, there is something you can do to help Rotary and its partners wipe the disease off the face of the earth forever: eat wings, drink beer, and have fun!

On Wednesday, September 18 at 7:30 PM, join us at the Beer Hunter (140, 700 McLeod Ave, Spruce Grove) for our first annual "Pints for Polio" fundraiser.  100% of ticket sales go to The Rotary Foundation's End Polio Now campaign.  10% of food and drink sales that night will also be donated to the cause.  Your $15 ticket gets you in and gets you entered to win door prizes!  Ask any Rotarian you know for tickets, or contact us at info@sprucegroverotary.org or (587) 763-0250.  See our Facebook page for more details.
Run for Life a Success!
Thanks to all club members who participated in or volunteered for the Rotary Run for Life on Sunday.  It's a large-scale event that runs smoothly thanks to your commitment!  This year, there were more runners than there have been in a long time.  Fundraising results are yet to come.  The committee will be meeting again soon.

Please report your make-up to Club Secretary, Jim Rigby by email at wjrigby@shaw.ca to let him know what you did and when so he can reflect that in the club's engagement statistics.
Noah in Finland
Our outbound exchange student, Noah Fouillard, is settling in well in Finland and enjoying school there a lot more than here, from the sounds of it.  We expect to hear from Noah a few times this year.  If you want to reach out to him by email, contact him at noahjfouillard@gmail.com.  Noah provided us a copy of the slideshow presentation he gave at our club about a month ago.  This is the presentation he will be giving to his Finnish host Rotary club sometime this year.  https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1XQQ_Cdpqbcsn4xtGaCEScJ3EKNj1_edVTycYNVRzCRo
Recent Resignations
It was announced at club meetings over the summer that long-time Rotarians Arlaine Monaghan and Jan Vanderbij have decided to resign from Rotary.  If you haven't been with us much over summer, you may not have known that.  Please reach out to both former members to wish them your best.  You can contact Arlaine at ajmonagh@telusplanet.net and Jan at janandbev@shaw.ca.
Notice of Board Meetings
Members of the club are encouraged to attend and observe our monthly board meetings.  For the 2019-2020 year, they will be held on the fourth Wednesday of every month at the clubhouse in Rotary Centennial Park beginning at 7:00 PM and ending at 8:30 PM.  If you can't attend in person, we are also now able to bring you in remotely using Zoom's online meeting software.  The URL for the meetings will be the same from month to month, so you may want to bookmark this address:  https://zoom.us/j/224919848.  Hope to see you there!
Attendance at Weekly Meetings
Just a quick reminder that if you are going to be away and won't be attending a weekly meeting, can you please indicate by clicking the "Can't Make It" Button.  The email comes out on Fridays and is called the "May Rotary Meetings" or whichever month it is.  The email comes from Crystal Desilets.  I use this info for informing Shotz how many people will be there for lunch.  Also if you are bringing a guest could you fill in the "Bring a Guest" button.  Thanks for helping out with this as it's makes my job easier if I have all the information.
Have Information for The Rotary RAP?
Have a Rotary Story, pictures from a Rotary Social and/or information for the Rotary RAP?

Send me (Krista) an email:  krista.mastaler@gmail.com by Sunday evenings at the latest so that I can include it in the weekly RAP on Mondays!

Thanks everyone!!!!
