Jesse Martineau

Jesse Martineau spoke to our club about his passionate approach to building community and encouraged our club to find ways to engage youth to help do so.  Due to technical difficulties, Jesse couldn’t share a video he wanted to show us, but you can watch it here:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ENmhVcNq_H8.  You can find Jesse on the web and on lots of different social media platforms.  Just Google his name.  As Jesse said, “There’s only one other person with the same name, and he’s a state representative from New Hampshire.  That’s not me.”
Discussion of Honorary Membership Policy
Just a recap of Tony Zeglen's last email about the Honorary Membership Policy, so if you haven't seen the email, here is the information.  Please come October 25th so that you can be part of the discussion.

In consultation with Tammy, this is the motion that I will speak to at our meeting on October 25th.

Move to appeal the board decision on the Honorary Membership Policy [policy attached] of September 22, 2016.

IF two-thirds of the members present support the motion, we will have a "straw poll" on the following elements of a to-be-drafted policy:
  1. That we limit all Honorary Memberships to one calendar year.
  2. That we offer all current Honorary Members a fast-track to regular membership, i.e. exemption from the current process, and that this offer expires in 30 days of the appropriate notification.
  3. That we offer all future Honorary Members a fast-track to regular membership, i.e. exemption from the current process, and that this offer expires in 30 days of the end of their Honorary Membership.
  4. That we offer an Honorary Membership to winners of our annual Integrity Award from 2019 forward.
We will then discuss any other ideas for a new policy that members may have.
Upcoming Things to Consider

Upcoming Things to Consider:

November 1st - Milja Leinonen's Exchange Presentation

Come hear our exchange student Milja present her exchange talk.  Learn more about her, where she originates and what she is hoping to achieve on her exchange in Canada!

November 8th - Come hear the "Wayne and Wayne" show as they teach us the importance of the Rotary Foundation, how to donate, where that money goes and how you can decide!

November 15th - Keri Card-Esau: Come hear an update on the Therapeutic Art Program and the 'Take it or Leave it' Mini Library at Paul 1st Nation School.  Learn about the impacts these programs have had and how our Connecting with Our Indigenous Neighbors Committee has been supporting these programs for the last two years.

November 22nd - Silly Santa Auction, after the meeting if you can stay and wrap/prepare the gifts for Wings of Providence, that would be awesome.  Many hands make light work and it usually only takes 30 mins or so.

November 23d - Karaoke Night at Dianne Brown's house

December 20th - Annual Christmas Party at Porta Romana.  More info to come.

This year we have elected to support an initiative that provides backpacks for those in need.  This would include our local homeless citizens and also people who may be in crisis.  We are partnering with Alberta Health Services at the Stony Hospital, with the local RCMP (they will have a few backpacks in their patrol cars) and potentially first responders.

These backpacks will contain essentials like toothbrush, toothpaste, sanitary items for females, mitts, touque, socks, and a thermal undershirt, among other items.  The backpacks will also have the Rotary Wheel Symbol on them.

Tickets now available from Catherine!
