August 24th and 25th the Spruce Grove and District Agricultural Society will be holding their annual Agra Fair. This event has been a staple in our community for decades and has recently seen a revitalization in 2022. This year's event promises to be another great one that many in the community will enjoy as they do our Ribfest.
There are two elements to this that are relevant to our Rotary Club:
- Volunteers - The Ag Society has sent many volunteers to assist us with Ribfest and other Rotary-led activities and have offered to promote our projects like the Rotary Run for Life. This year alone, I think they delivered 50+ hours of volunteer service to Ribfest.
In the vein of being a great community partner, I think we ought to reciprocate that and more. Last year, they contributed just as many hours to Ribfest and I don't think we sent a single volunteer back their way for Agra Fair (present company excluded). Please help support this event and show that Rotary is a great partner and help us continue to build those relationships and goodwill.
There are shifts starting Thursday with setup and running through Sunday. Please sign up at this link: https://signup.com/go/bDFEprj - Parade Participation and Float - In addition to contributing to the volunteer efforts, we have an opportunity to be part of the only parade in Spruce Grove. The Agra Fair parade will be held on Saturday morning (Aug. 24th) and runs from the Composite High School to Central Park. Putting a "float" into the parade would be a great chance for us to raise the visibility of Rotary and our efforts in the community (and to have a little bit of fun).
If we as a Club decide that we would like to do this we would need to enlist the help of a few volunteers to help put together our "float" as well as a few volunteers on the day of to ride in the parade and hand out candy or something (if we decide we want to do that). I'll be bringing this up at the Club lunch meeting today, but if you missed it or you don't get a chance to put your hand up, please reach out to me and I will coordinate.
Thanks for helping support a great community partner in the Ag Society! As I said, reach out if you have any questions or would like to offer your time to assist.
Thanks!
Jeff
