Brad Mastaler, Chair of the 2014 Lobsterfest Dinner and Charity Auction Committee, will be our guest speaker at our meeting on January 23rd. New members: please make a special point of attending this meeting because our major fundraising event will be explained at that time, including expectations of all Club members.
Dale Monaghan, President and CEO of Goodwill Industries of Alberta, provided us with an update of Goodwill activities at our January 16th meeting. Dale is shown below (centre) with President Nizar Abouchami and Rotarian Larry Holland. What follows is a "spoof" introduction of Dale by Larry; to be amused by, certainly not believed. Then a serious video of Dale's presentation and a clip about Anthony referred to by Dale. Enjoy!
We proudly welcomed Catherine Pederson (centre below) as a new member to our Club at our meeting on January 16th. She was a presenter when the local Girls Guides visited our Club a couple of years ago, and attended our meeting on December 5th. She has lived in Spruce Grove for 21 years (the last 13 and a previous period of eight years) and joined our Club because she wants to give back to our community and serve on the Community Service Committee. She is a Senior Land Vacation Specialist working with Expedia Cruise Ship Centers. She worked previously with Marlin Travel and was educated at Grant MacEwan College (at it was then called). She has volunteered with Girl Guides for 11 years, was a "Wish Grantor" for the Make a Wish Foundation: Northern Alberta Chapter, and is a regular contributor at our Blood Donor Clinics. She is shown below with President Nizar Abouchami and her proposer Rotarian Judy Kesanko.
The Board will meet at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, January 28th (tonight), in the second floor conference room, at 314 McLeod Ave. (Triton Business Centre). Our Club House is just too damn cold at this time of year :)

They have their own website page which describes the basic details of the event that can be found near the bottom of the left hand side of this page.

I am passing along an invitation to the Sturgeon Hospital Gala on February 8, 2014. It is at The Enjoy Centre (Hole’s) this year. We have really tried to upscale it, with Danny Hooper, great entertainment and live and silent auction.
For details, please click here. Please let Nizar Abouchami know here, if you plan to attend. We will have four attendees for sure. We are the sponsor for the evening and will be showing our Open House video prior to the formal part of the agenda, laying out our Club pamphlets at the tables, displaying our large Club sign, and Vocational Service Director Ray Frayne will be speaking for five minutes prior to Mayor Houston's State of the City Address.
We have all heard or read about Neil Young's recent statements regarding oilsands mining, Fort McMurray, oil consumption, and climate change. And good for him for speaking out. Too bad his message is lost in the hyperbole.
